Geekpure is one of the best companies in the US, offering water purifying solutions at a very economical price. It has models with different filtration capacities and capabilities. Geekpure has kept in mind the primary purpose of providing healthy and pure water while designing and developing its filters.
In this review, we are going to evaluate one of the most famous models from Geekpure, commonly known as Geekpure 6-stage water filtration system.
Geekpure 6-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filter System with Alkaline Mineral pH+ Remineralization Filter – Superb Taste High Capacity 75 GPD – Review
Filtration Stages and Capabilities
Geekpure has made use of 6 different filtration stages to provide you with pure drinking water. The filters can remove around 99% of contaminants in water including but not limited to heavy metals, chlorine and by-products, bacteria, viruses, pharmaceuticals, herbicides, insecticides, and any other contaminant present in the water. The smallest filter in this unit is 0.0001 micron, meaning that only contaminants larger than this size would pass through. The possibility of such a thing happening is very rare. Let’s look at the working of all the stages in the unit and what contaminants they remove from your water.
Stage 1: Sediment Filter – When the water enters the unit, it has to face a sediment filter that removes dust, sand, dirt, algae, and rust particles from it. All the suspended particles in the water which are large would be captured in this stage. Apart from capturing the particulate in water, this filter also protects the next filters from getting clogged and blockage.
Stage 2: Granular Carbon Filter – The second filter is the granular carbon filter; it has been made from the finest carbon granules to ensure effectiveness and excellent results. The granular carbon increases the surface contact area with water molecules and removes odors, and tastes from the water, especially chlorine aftertaste and smell. If your water has smell due to the presence of iron, sulfur, or magnesium, it is also removed by this filter.
Stage 3: Carbon Block Filter – As the name implies, it acts as a carbon block for residual chemicals, tastes, and odors. The filter also removes chloramines, volatile organic compounds, and a lot of other contaminants which can be trapped by the carbon filter.
Stage 4: Reverse Osmosis Membrane – The 4th stage is the most important stage of the Geekpure 6-stage filtration system. It is just like the heart of the system. It is a very fine membrane and tracks down and removes 99% of all the contaminants including heavy metals, fluoride, bacteria, viruses, and 1000+ contaminants from your water. The result is unmatched purity and better water than bottled water.
Stage 5: Post Carbon Filter – For toning down the taste and odor of water, another filter has been installed in the system. It acts on any contaminant that can impact the taste and odor of water. Till now, all the stages of a 5-stage reverse osmosis system are the same. Geekpure has added another stage in very economical pricing to give it an edge over other filtration systems.
Stage 6: Alkaline Mineral pH+ Filter – The last and final stage of the filter is an alkaline filter and re-mineralization stage. It has 2 purposes. First, it adds alkalinity to water and adjusts its pH around 7.5-8.5. The water produced by an RO filter has a pH of around 6-6.5, the membrane is so small that it filters out minerals from your water, and it results in low pH and a lack of minerals. By adding alkalinity to your water, this filter improves the taste of your water. Secondly, it adds healthy minerals to your water, such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium. All these minerals are needed by your body in specific amounts and have various health benefits. If you drink 8-10 glasses of water from Geekpure, you would be able to complete your daily requirement.
Geekpure has employed 6 different filters to provide you with pure and healthy drinking water. It is very important to know about the lifespan of filters so you can estimate the cost in the long run. The first three filters, sediment filter, and carbon filters work for 6-12 months depending upon your usage. A small and medium family will be able to use these filters for around 9 months. The RO membrane has a lifespan of 15-20 months, and the post-carbon filter works for 12-15 months. The last filter works for 1 year. The lifespan of water filters can also be impacted by the water quality you are getting.
Replacing the filters is easy as you just need to open the housing, remove the old ones and insert back the new ones. Make sure that when you install new filters; waste a couple of gallons of water for the first time.
Water Storage Capacity and Production Capacity
Two things are very important when you are selecting a water filter, the storage capacity and the daily production capacity. Geekpure offers a storage capacity of 2.8 gallons in the pressurized tank. It means that you can use 2.8 gallons of water in one go and then you will have to wait for the filter to produce more water. It can filter 75 gallons of water in a day; this capacity is very large and shows the strength and working power of this filter. Realistically, it is very rare that a family can consume 75 gallons of water in one day.
Water Flow Rate
The system offers an excellent flow rate of 3.1 gallons per hour. It surpasses its competitors which offer a flow rate of around 2-2.5 gallons per hour. You can use 3.1 gallons of water in one go in an hour, and after 3.1 gallons, the flow rate will decrease. You will have to wait for the system to filter more water.
This is one area where Geekpure has made huge strides. It has significantly reduced the water wastage ratio. Where other 6-stage systems waste around 3-4 gallons of water for producing 1 gallon of water, Geekpure uses only 2 gallons of water for every one gallon produced. We suggest that you take care of this water and do not waste it as it can be used for gardening, house cleaning, washing your vehicles and for other such purposes.
Warranty and Customer Service
Geekpure offers a limited warranty of only 1 year. As compared to other companies, this warranty is very less as they are offering a 4-5 year warranty and money-back guarantee for 30-90 days. The customer service of Geekpure is very good; the representatives are helpful and try to answer all your concerns as soon as possible.
Installation and Technical Details
The installation is easy, and you can do it yourself. There is no condition that installing the unit yourself can violate the warranty or any terms and conditions associated with it. The dimensions of the unit are, RO unit: 14.20”x 6.2”x18.1”, storage tank: diameter 9.45” and height 14.4”, and the weight is 25 pounds. Before buying it, please make sure that the cabinet under your sink has enough space for installation.
You get every part needed for installation, drain saddle, quick adapter, clips, housing wrench, color-coded tubing, faucet fittings, a water diverter valve, and a tank ball valve and a hundred percent lead-free faucet. A detailed written guide along pictures will walk you through the installation process. If you know basic plumbing knowledge, you will be able to install it in just a couple of hours.
Once you have installed the system, please wait until the entire system is pressurized and check for any leaks before leaving the installation site. Make sure you waste the first 2 gallons of water after installation and don’t worry if you see black carbon fines in the water. You may have to do some drilling if the tubing size does not match with your sinkholes. A pro tip or installation: push the tubing all the way and use Teflon tape during installation.
As far as the technical details of the system are concerned, it can work with a feed pressure of 40-100 PSI, and a temperature range of 40-110°F/5-45°C is best for the unit. The suitable pH is 3-11, and the max TDS system can handle 2000 PPM with turbidity, smaller than 1.0 NTU, and hardness not greater than 5 GPG. The pipe sizes are ¼ inches and 3/8 inches. The system can work very well on well water and municipal water sources as well.
Materials and Certifications
All the plastic used in the unit is BPA free, and the filter is approved from NSF. Filters with certifications are better than uncertified ones because they are built under strict quality checks, and the companies are forced to maintain a working standard as they fear to lose their accreditation. The faucet is lead-free. All the materials used in the making and filter cartridges do not hurt the environment or human health in any way.
